Our 2015 Show Judge:

Mark Carter Woodinville, WA

An active competitor for over 40 years, I have been fortunate to have the opportunity to work
in many different disciplines. I began showing in the hunter and equitation divisions at the
local fairs in the Ottawa valley. From there I moved into combined training and was long listed
for the North American Young Riders team until injury forced a withdrawal.
The years spent in the eventing world lead to a love of dressage and the developing of young
horses. I went to work for Gerhard and Charlotte Schickedanz at Galten Farms, where I
started, developed and promoted the young stallions. The time at Galten farms culminated in the
four year old stallion Apache winning the Ontario Eventing Championships, and placed second
in the Governor Generals Cup at the Royal Winter Fair. Apache went on to the Grand Prix
Dressage ring, before being sold to the USA.
In the 80s my wife and I were relocated to the West Coast and my business, Northport
Training moved along with it. Focusing on the dressage and Jumper rings, I developed
several young horses and found success in both rings. Having wins at the major shows from
Spruce Meadows to Thunderbird, Bend, Hood River, Tucson, Etc. I also had a rewarding time
showing conformation horses and have great memories of very late night cup classes at Milner
Downs. I remain grateful to the breeders and owners that allowed me to work with their
wonderful horses.
I have always been involved in judging both performance and breeding classes and continue to
enjoy these activities. I am currently exploring my interest in driving CDE horses and hope to
compete in this area soon.
