And the WINNERS ARE for 2009 Year End Award! B.C. Sporthorse-Sportpony Breeders Group held their 3rd Annual Year End Award presentation, January 31, 2010, at the Shannon Hall, in Cloverdale. A popular feature was the Silent Auction, with lots of close bidding by over 40 attendees. Chairing the meeting was Shelley Fraser who welcomed old and new members. It was the feeling of the Show Committee, Mary Kierans, Ulli Dargel and Shelley Fraser, that 2009 was a highly successful year. We would like to thank all our competitors and sponsors for their support. A big thank you goes to Teresa Longsworth who organized an even bigger and better Stallion Show Case than 2008 and Debbie Rogal who volunteered to run our refreshment party and jumped in as a relief whipper-in on short notice. The year ended with a Social at the Fraser Downs Racetrack - various other events are planned for 2010. Prior to awarding our Year End Awards (to qualify you had to be a member of the BC Sporthorse-Sportpony Breeders Group and had attended their two shows), we had the pleasure of presenting to Simone Stich, our Web Master and person extraordinaire, a beautiful quarter sheet, sponsored by Horse Council B.C., Zone 3; and to Janice Burns a lovely glass Pinto Cutting Board, for her support throughout the year. Through the sponsorship of the BC Paint Horse Club and their PAC (Paint Alternative Competition) Qualifier Program, Jacqueline Thomas, with her registered APHA horse Jamacia Me Tuff, was the recipient of an embroidered tote bag. The 2010 Show Season is ready to go full speed ahead. Our shows are Equine Canada Sanctioned Bronze Competitions. We continue to be BC Heritage Circuit and PAC (Paint Alternative Competition) Qualifiers. Judges are confirmed for our Summer Show June 19, 20, 2010 and our Fall Classic September 24, 25, 26, 2010 - held again at the Agriplex in Cloverdale, B.C. Shelley Fraser thanked everyone for coming, and presented John and Ulli Dargel with a gift basket for all their dedication and work throughout the year. Sporthorse – Sportpony Breeders Group extend their best wishes to one of their members Sylvia Baur. Jim & Sylvia on February 21, 2010 married at Burnaby Horsemen’s Association Since Sylvia is also a member at Burnaby Horsemen’s Association, John & Ulli Dargel decided with Burnaby members, on very short notice (3 days), to help make this day a memorable one for Sylvia and Jim. The plan was that they would both enter on horseback to start their lives together witnessed by approximately 60 people. The barn perimeter area was beautifully decorated with the Canadian and BC Flag. It added colour and a special touch to their facility. It was befitting, that her two horses one of which is her show horse “All That Jazz”, were beautifully braided for this occasion. What a great entrance by the bride and groom on horseback – something Sylvia has always wished for – like a fairy tale. Debbie Rogal and Rhonda Ennis, the honour guards, were leading the horses, Meagan as Bridesmaid and Melanie as flower girl. They created a spectacular entrance to a festive function. Sylvia and Jim were speechless and could not thank everyone enough for having come out in such great numbers and created this memorable day for them, something they will always cherish and members at Burnaby Horsemen’s Association will talk about for a long time to come. By Ulii Dargel BC Sporthorse Members and friends turned out for a FUN evening at FRASER DOWNS The food was excellent, gambled a bit - won and lost in the spirit of fun. Definitely something we plan on doing again next year. We chatted with Shelley Nyuli of SciencePure Neutraceuticals who breeds Standardbreds. Some of her horses were running that evening and did quite well. CONGRATULATIONS TO BC Sporthorse Member's Shelly, Donna and Tanya! 2009 Summer RESULTS FOR THE FALL 2009 SHOW Held September 2009 at Cloverdale Show Grounds Click Here for FALL SHOW RESULTS The BC Sporthorse-Sportpony Breeders Group have completed another very successful 2009 show season ending with their 3rd Annual BC Sporthorse Fall Classic – September 25, 26, 27, 2009 held at the Cloverdale Exhibition Grounds. Our Judges were Joan Curtin, from Lockford, Ca. and Barbara Funk, from Battle Ground, Wa. We welcomed many new faces, up-and-coming young and mature riders as well as young horses. We encourage everyone to come, have a good time and gain experience in the show ring. A big thank you goes to Teresa Longsworth and her helpers, for organizing our second annual Stallion Show Case - 11 Stallions were presented - one Stallion came from afar as Osoyoos-Bridesville, B.C. Spectators were treated to various disciplines – driving, jumping, dressage and performance - it was a great hit amongst all those that attended. This was followed by a Wine & Cheese at the Stallion Tent where potential Mare Owners and spectators had a chance to have another look at the Stallions and a chance to talk to the Stallion Owners in their privately beautifully decorated office. Click Here for Detailed list of Stallions presented! The prestigious Dr. John Gilray Memorial Cup was won by West Bay (Westporte x Never A Question x Jett Sett Joe) Owner/Breeder: Darlene York. In attendance to do the presentation was his daughter Janet Gilray. On behalf of the B.C.
